PASSIONFISH
CO-FOUNDER WINS PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL AWARD
ANDREW SPURGIN VOTED 2004 CATERER OF THE YEAR
San
Diego , Calif - August 31, 2004
Andrew
Ryland Spurgin, Passionfish Co-founder, has been voted the country's
top caterer by the event design and catering industry.
The nationally coveted award is called the National Event Solution's
Spotlight Award for Caterer of the Year. Andrew received the
award -- the height and heft of a bowling trophy -- at the Event
Solutions conference in Washington, D.C. tonight.
"This nationally coveted award is truly a great honor and deeply
humbling," says Andrew. Andrew's award recognizes his work
as Executive Director of Waters
Fine Catering and Waters Fine Foods in San Diego.
This is the third year that Andrew has been nominated and become
finalist for the prestigious award. Passionfish itself has been
nominated twice for the industry's Samaritan award for our work
in educating the event design and catering industry about seafood
sustainability. Andrew's nomination can be viewed at the Event
Solutions website. He has used his incredible creativity, zest,
and knowledge to design and orchestrate truly memorable events for
a huge variety of clients, from wedding parties to corporate celebrations
to fundraisers for non-profit organizations.
Last fall, Andrew designed the vibrant, mold-breaking Passionfish
sustainable seafood event at Scripps
Institution of Oceanography in honor of the renowned scientific
institute's 100-year birthday. Passionfish provided educational
material to the more than 550 attendees, and joined with the San
Diego Gastronomically Correct Chefs to co-host the centennial
bash. Passionfish is planning several other similar exciting "bashes"
in the near future.
Says Bruce Reznik, Executive Director of San
Diego BayKeeper, who contracted with Andrew and Waters Fine
Catering to design their 9th Annual Ocean Gala: "As a group
dedicated to restoring the health of our coastal waters, it is critical
that we are able to do events in a manner consistent with our mission.
We were thrilled to host such an elegant event in an environmentally
friendly fashion. We learned a great deal about protection of marine
life from Andrew, and greatly appreciate all of his efforts to increase
awareness of these issues within the catering community, and in
fact, among all San Diegans."
